Why Purpose Matters
Why Purpose Matters
Have you ever found yourself wondering, Is this it?
Maybe life is busy — full of family, work, obligations, and even some fun — but deep down you still feel like something’s missing. I’ve been there.
Years ago, when my career and business seemed “on track” from the outside, I couldn’t shake the sense that all my hustle and hard work weren’t adding up to something that actually mattered. I was running fast, but in circles. That restless feeling? It wasn’t a lack of ambition — it was a lack of purpose.
The truth is this: purpose matters because it’s what keeps us aligned with who God created us to be.
Purpose Is the Anchor
Life has seasons of calm and seasons of storm. Without an anchor, we drift. With one, we stay steady.
Purpose is that anchor. It doesn’t mean you’ll know every step ahead — honestly, most of us don’t! But it means you know what grounds you, what you stand for, and where you’re going.
Scripture reminds us of this in Hebrews 6:19: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” When our hope is in Christ and the purpose He gives us, we aren’t tossed around by busyness, comparison, or the pressure to do more. We’re rooted.
Purpose Gives Direction
For so long, I used to tell myself: I’ll start that new thing when… When the kids are older. When life slows down. When I feel more ready. Sound familiar?
The problem was, those “whens” never came. Without purpose, I was like a runner on a treadmill — moving, but not really going anywhere. Purpose gave me direction.
When you know your purpose, you can filter decisions through it. You stop saying yes to every opportunity that comes your way, and instead start asking: Does this align with the call on my life? Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Purpose isn’t about perfection. It’s about direction. It helps us move toward what matters most.
Purpose Brings Fulfillment
I used to think hitting certain milestones would finally make me feel complete — a bigger business, a new home, more financial freedom. And while those things can be blessings, none of them satisfied my soul in the way I thought they would.
That’s because success without purpose feels empty. You can achieve goals, earn money, or get recognition, but without purpose it often feels like you’re still chasing something that keeps slipping away.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has also set eternity in the human heart.” That longing you feel? It’s God-given. You were made for more than just checking boxes — you were made for impact, meaning, and eternal purpose.
Purpose Creates Space
Here’s what surprised me the most: finding my purpose didn’t make life heavier, it actually made it lighter.
When you know your “why,” you can release the distractions that don’t serve you. You stop filling your calendar with things that look good but don’t align. You stop striving for approval in ways that drain you. Purpose gives you permission to simplify.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we focus on what matters — living in alignment with God’s purpose — the rest falls into place.
Why This Matters for You
Maybe you’re in a season where life feels overwhelming, or maybe you’re simply coasting but not fulfilled. Either way, purpose is the difference-maker.
Purpose:
Anchors you when life feels uncertain.
Directs your steps so you’re not spinning your wheels.
Brings fulfillment that success alone can’t provide.
Creates space for what matters most.
The best part? You don’t have to have it all figured out today. You can start with small steps — creating moments of clarity, reflecting on what God has put on your heart, and choosing one action that aligns with your bigger “why.”
A Gentle Nudge
Friend, it’s never too late. God hasn’t forgotten the dream He placed inside you. Even if it’s been years, even if it feels impossible, His purpose for your life still stands.
Isaiah 46:10 reminds us: “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”
So ask yourself:
What are the things that light up my spirit?
Where do I sense God nudging me to slow down and pay attention?
What would it look like to take one small step toward living with purpose this week?
